Even with the information on this website, I can highly recommend the Location Guidebook of Ian Brodie. Here you find a lot of commentary from cast & crew on the locations as well as local tips for restaurants, hotels and much more.
This book is about the beauty of New Zealand. It also offers a lot of information about shooting locations for Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. It also reminds you not the miss the other wonderful places New Zealand has to offer.
For planning my trip, the NZTT Facebook group was awesome. The members are very helpful and you get a lot of inspiration and general information about New Zealand. And on the website, you get a lot of discounts, for example for Hobbiton and many more attractions.
